Middle School Interest Section
K-12 Interest Section Event on March 12!
Advocacy takes many forms in our profession. It can be as simple as emailing an elected official or as complicated as encouraging solid programming in the district or school site. Regardless of the form, advocacy requires we stay informed and current about issues, policies, resources, and techniques to advocate effectively and efficiently…and without burning out! Come join your K-12 colleagues in a discussion of advocacy and how the task is further influenced by location – rural, urban, suburban, and low-incidence sites.
Where: Hamline University
1536 Hewitt Ave St. Paul
Drew Science Room 118
When: March 12 from 10am to 2pm
Break-out sessions include:
- community organizations and social justice advocacy
- advocacy through assessment: the new WIDA standards
- collaboration and building models as advocacy for equitable access
- advocating in low-incidence schools – issues and concerns
There will be light lunch refreshments over round table discussions on grade-level hot topics (collaboration in secondary schools, low-incidence program models, literacy v. language instruction at the elementary, defining our jobs as ESL teachers and more)
