Submissions
due MAY 1, 2009
This contest is open to anyone in the state of Minnesota who is currently
studying English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teachers are
encouraged to submit learners' essays on one of the following topics:
1. Change in America
2. Cultural Challenges
A prize will be awarded to one learner in each of the following groups:
--Elementary school
--Middle school
--High school
--Adult basic education
--College/Intensive English program
One winner from each group will receive $30 in prize money.
Winning entries will be posted on the MinneTESOL website.
Entries must be postmarked by May 1, 2009.

The University of Minnesota, College of Liberal Arts (CLA) seeks qualified
candidates for the position of Director of the CLA Language Center. The mission
of the Language Center is to advance second language, literature, and culture
education by providing leadership in integrating technology with instruction
and learning in the College, the University, the state of Minnesota and
beyond.
The Director will provide intellectual leadership for the Language Center to
meet the overall college goal of visible, integrated, and distinctive
services in technology-enhanced instruction, Responsibilities will include
oversight of the Language Center facilities, services, programs, courses,
personnel, and budget as well as supervision of planning and establishment of
priorities that lead to
innovations and improvements in language teaching and curriculum; promotion
and participation in research and materials development in language
teaching/learning and technology; and collaboration with related College,
University, and community partners to advance Center and College goals
related to language instruction.

International travel grant for US teachers to travel to Argentina, Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Dominican Republic, Egypt, El
Salvador, Estonia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jordon,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Nicaragua, Poland, Russia, Senegal,
Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, or Ukraine!
Under the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) the U.S.
Department of State and IREX (the International Research & Exchanges
Board) announce a competition for middle and high school teachers from the
United States to participate in a two-week professional exchange program.
The program is fully funded and provides: visa support, round-trip domestic
airfare, lodging and meals to attend the TEA U.S. Conference, round-trip
airfare from the U.S. to the assigned country, emergency medical evacuation
plan, and lodging and a daily stipend in host country.
